Jan tried and failed at a variety of careers - from hotel bellboy, ambulance driver to briefly studying Iranian culture and languages - before hitting on filmmaking where, as director and writer/director, Jan happily combines the skills honed bellboying and ambulance driving to bring energetic character driven work to your screen. 
After ten years in London Jan now leads a double life between gigs in Germany and Britain. He retains a sense of humour despite sometimes being caught between, "Don't mention the war" and "Don't mention the Euro", caught between sauerkraut and cream-teas, and between the two places he loves."
